How assessments helped an international manufacturer refine their leadership development process.
Situation
An Midwest based International manufacturing and sales organization was growing globally, and execs were seeing uneven leadership capability around the world. Functions were executing differently, and with different levels of savvy from office to office.
Need
The Executive team was committed developing leaders across the globe. They wanted a meaningful solution, and realized that diagnosis precedes prognosis – you have to know what you’re dealing with before you set out to change it. They selected to use 360 degree feedback for direct and anonymous feedback. They selected Sagatica because we could customize the survey design, had flexible technology, specific consulting expertise to advise along the way and could help with implementation and interpretation.
Approach
Our consultants worked with the leadership team to meet their objectives: an easy-to-use 360 degree feedback, highest possible participation, tailored questions about competencies and culture, and a flexible solution at a reasonable cost.
Together, we implemented a three-step process to achieve these objectives. First, we designed the fewest and most critical questions about leadership skills and culture. Next we configured a customized web delivered instrument. Lastly, we generated individual 360 degree feedback reports, as well as aggregate reports that summarized competency/skill averages across the organizational by division.
Results and Value
92% of those surveyed agreed that the assessment was easy to navigate and complete. Our customized “self-paced” 360 feedback report provided targeted questions that guided the leaders through the process of uncovering strengths and development areas. With this knowledge, divisional leaders took specific actions. They effectively leveraged the leadership strengths and refocused efforts where developmental opportunities existed, and for development and succession initiatives.
